General
What is a pre-filter?
A pre-filter serves as an additional safety measure and filters further coffee chaff from the roasting exhaust air that the cyclone does not capture. This ensures the cleanliness and function of the ReiCat catalyst in the event of a cyclone failure.
What do the numbers behind the product designations mean and how many catalysts does ReiCat offer?
The numbers behind the product designations stand for the maximum roasting exhaust air volume for which the catalyst is suitable. We offer a total of ten different catalyst sizes.
- ReiCatino® 100 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 100 Nm³/h
- ReiCatino® 450 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 450 Nm³/h
- ReiCatino® 600 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 600 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Gourmet (600) – roasting exhaust air volume max. 600 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 900 – roasting exhaust air max. 900 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 1200 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 1.200 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 1600 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 1.600 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 2500 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 2.500 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 3200 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 3.200 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 5000 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 5.000 Nm³/h
- ReiCat Industrial 7500 – roasting exhaust air volume max. 7.500 Nm³/h
What is the difference between the ReiCatino® product line and other ReiCat catalysts?
The ReiCatino® product line, specially designed for shop roasters and customised to their needs, is electrically powered. In contrast, the systems for speciality and industrial roasters are gas-powered. At the same time, the ReiCat Gourmet and ReiCat Industrial products are used to fulfil the legal emission regulations (e.g. TA-Luft).
Can I get support from ReiCat if I am in contact with authorities?
We support our customers as much as possible in the realisation of the planning. If authorities request special documents or more detailed technical information, the ReiCat team will be happy to take care of this and provide the authorities with everything they need.
Why should I buy a ReiCat catalyst?
ReiCat has been active in the catalyst industry for over 40 years and therefore has a wealth of experience. Every day, the team of engineers and many others are busy creating new developments that make the catalysts even better.
ReiCat catalysts not only impress with their easy handling and low maintenance requirements, but also because they consume significantly less energy than a conventional afterburner and neutralise smoke and odours.
Function
How does a catalyst work?
The roasting exhaust air polluted with organic impurities is first passed through a pre-filter. The pre-filter protects the catalyst from the coffee chaff, which the cyclone does not capture.
The exhaust air is then channelled through a pipe and heated to the required reaction temperature using an electric hot air blower or a gas burner. The heated air reaches the catalyst, where smoke and odour are neutralised with the help of a thermal reaction. You can also find a visual explanation of this in our YouTube Video.
Does the exhaust air from the ReiCatino® have to be routed to the outside?
We recommend that the roasting exhaust air is discharged through a chimney. However, there are also other ways of extracting the exhaust air, especially for smaller roasters. Make sure that the roasting exhaust air is always channelled to the outside and does not remain in the room!
How loud is the hot air blower of the ReiCatino® ?
At the ReiCatino® product line, the sound pressure level is max. 65 dB, whereby a silencer for the hot air blower is included in the scope of delivery, which significantly reduces this emission level. Here you can find information on how to install the hot air blower.
Does the ReiCat Gourmet also fulfil the legal requirements for air pollution control in my country?
The ReiCat Gourmet offers two solutions in one system. With a maximum roasting exhaust air volume of 600 Nm³/h, the ReiCat Gourmet ensures both the neutralisation of smoke and odour plumes and compliance with country-specific emission reduction regulations (with upgrade - on request).
Maintenance & Service
What does maintenance involve and how does it work?
Our ReiCat catalysts are generally low-maintenance. Both the pre-filter and the catalyst honeycombs can be cleaned with compressed air. The pre-filter should be serviced regularly: The coffee scales that end up in the pre-filter can be easily removed with a broom. The operating instructions explain exactly how to clean the pre-filter and what needs to be observed. It is important to use the ReiCat catalyst in the same way and to carry out maintenance as described in the operating manual. Additional assistance is provided by our YouTube Video.
Does ReiCat also take care of commissioning and exhaust air measurement?
Others
Can I install ReiCat catalysts inside and outside?
The ReiCatino®-line is only suitable for indoor installation. The ReiCat Gourmet and ReiCat Industrial products can be installed indoors and outdoors. In the case of an outdoor installation, the ReiCat team must be informed so that the appropriate insulation can be taken into account.
What is the difference between ReiCat catalysts and other exhaust air purification options, especially afterburners?
ReiCat catalysts offer the following advantages over conventional afterburners:
- neutralisation of smoke and odour
- eco-friendly and energy-efficient
- low maintenance and user-friendly
- simple upgrade for existing roasters
- compact system
- monitoring of the process temperature and electrically powered
Even with gas-powered catalysts, considerable energy and cost savings can be achieved, as the catalyst requires a much lower operating temperature than an afterburner. This leads to a more efficient utilisation of energy and thus to reduced operating costs for the roasting plants.
